Winter Months are Less Expensive For a Weekend Getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains

Winter Months are Less Expensive For a Weekend Getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains
By Lannae Wilson

The Great Smoky Mountains is within a days drive to a third of the US population, making it easy to plan a quick getaway. Not only is it easy to travel to, but also during the winter months rates are at their lowest. Rental agencies consider January through March to be off-season. They run special off season rates during these months. For example one cabin rental agency charges $1000 per night during their peak season but only $200 per night during the off-season. Some also run specials as well as such as rent two nights and get third night free. (The two nights that you are paying for are already based on the off season rates)

The following are rates taken from three different websites for a three bedroom cabin:

Cabinsinthesmokies.com

Winter is $175/night, Off-Season $225/night, Season $250/night, Peak $325/night

Volunteercabinrentals.com

Winter is $170/night, Off-season 185/night, Season is $210/night and Peak is $230/night

Cabinfevervacations.com

winter is $130/night, Off-season is $155/night, Season is $185/night and Peak is $205/night

To learn about other cabin rental agencies in the Smoky Mountains, go to google.com and type in Cabin rentals in the Great Smoky Mountains in the search engine. There are quite a few agencies that are sure to have the cabins to fit your needs and wants.

Even though the cabin rental agencies consider these months to be off season, activities during this season still abound. Visitors during this season can still visit the National Park with its 900 miles of walking trails, spectacular waterfalls, abundant wildlife and a tranquil beauty that just cant be found anywhere else on earth.

The area also offers Country Music Shows, Bluegrass Music Shows, Elvis Shows, Comedy shows, 50s Music shows, Magic Shows, Broadway-style Shows, and more! Tickets for these shows are under $30.00 for adults and many offer free tickets to children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by their parents.

Visitors can enjoy helicopter tours, horseback riding, nature walks, fine dining and everything else that visitors who come during peak season can enjoy but at a much lower rate.

Winter in the Smokies is generally moderate, but extremes in weather do occur, especially with an increase in elevation. It is not unusual to have warm temperatures in the low elevations and snow in the higher areas. About half the days in the winter have high temperatures of 50 degrees or more. Highs occasionally even reach the 70s. Most nights have lows at or below freezing. Lows of -20F are possible at high elevations. In the low elevations, snows of 1 or more occur 1-5 times a year. Snow falls more frequently in the higher mountains and up to two feet can fall during a storm. January and February are the months when one is most likely to find snow in the mountains. Current weather forecasts for the park are available by phone at (865) 436-1200 extension 630.

Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains during winter months is truly the least expensive time of year to visit. You can save hundreds of dollars and still enjoy a fun filled vacation. To learn more about the Great Smoky Mountains, please visit
